What are we looking for?

Public Transport:

Kildare is the largest commuter county in Ireland, with this we have thousands of people moving around every day. How will the use of data improve the flow of people? We have an excellent network of rail, but how can this be better utilised? The majority of people are commuting to Dublin daily, how can we increase Car Sharing? How do we encourage more use of electric vehicles? How can data help us improve journeys on the M4, M7 & M9?

Recycling & Waste Services:

We need to cut our reliance on traditional waste facilities around Kildare. How can we do this? Are there existing ideas we can build on by harnessing the data? i.e WEE recycling? Is there a way of encouraging business and households to reduce their waste? Can accessible up to date data encourage large corporations to balance their carbon footprints? How will this impact climate change, and how do we track this information?

Energy Efficiency:

Throughout our towns and villages steps have been taken to discourage reliance on fossil fuels. We have seen the construction of wind turbines around the county and biomethane plant construction, but how much of this clean energy is remaining within the county? What sectors are working hard to improve and where are we falling short? How can data help to monitor the transition? And what opportunities can arise for visual representation of renewable energy?

Parks & Public Spaces:

With natural amenities like the Curragh and acres of beautiful forest around our county, how can we ensure that these areas remain intact for generations to come. What data can we gather around biodiversity? Are we planting the right trees? Are visitors able to interact with the spaces? How can we ensure the water is clean or track if it isn’t? Is there an appetite for more allotments, decreasing our food miles? How can we learn from what we are doing now and create accurate information for future planning of these areas.

Buildings, Infrastructure & Construction:

As the third fastest growing population in Ireland, County Kildare needs to increase its infrastructure to support this growth and vibrancy, but how can we use existing data to best understand the areas for improvement around our building process? How can we track the waste that is coming from sites? How can we accurately track the use of work hubs and their benefits to the environment?

Natural Solutions:

Worldwide we are seeing innovative uses of natural solutions to decrease temperatures in cities, catch carbon before it enters the atmosphere and the recycling of natural waste before it gets to landfill, but what are the stats? How can we capture the data or pilot new ideas where we can measure how helpful these natural innovations are? Is there a publicly accessible dashboard that lets the public know in real-time how these solutions are working?
